Universal: The Champions' Brake

Universal: The Champions' Brake

Universal meant bicycle brakes for over half a century throughout the 20th century. The company, founded by the Pietra brothers, Eugenio and Carlo, left an indelible mark on the history of racing bicycles and beyond. Champions from different eras won using Universal brakes: from Girardengo and Binda to Coppi and Bartali, and later Gimondi and Merckx, Vigna, Moser, and Adorni all relied on them with confidence. But Universal brakes also equipped a wide range of touring bicycles, for riders of all ages. It’s a story that unfolded across every type of race - Classics to Grand Tours, from heroic cycling to modern times, celebrated with a major exhibition held in 2019 on the centenary of the company’s founding. 170 pages in paperback (20x20 cm) English only. Printed in Italy.
